Spanner Panel Card Technique

spanner panel card

Hello Friends,

So glad you could join me today as I provide instructions on how to make a Spanner Panel Card.  This technique is very easy and it only takes a few minutes to make one.  The hardest part is deciding which designer series paper (dsp) to use.  Today I wanted to use the lovely Countryside Inn designer series paper which has bunnies, birds, foxes, flowers and trees in many different shades of blue like Boho Blue, Balmy Blue, Misty Moonlight, and Night of Navy.  Blue is my all-time favorite color so I just had to have this dsp.  If you would like to purchase it as well, you can click on this link for my online store.

Supplies for the Spanner Panel Card  (all can be purchased through my online store)

Night of Navy Cardstock (cardbase)
Countryside Inn Designer Series Paper
White Cardstock (inside card)
Window sheet (optional – you could use cardstock instead)
Stamp Set and ink
Circle punch or die (optional)
Adhesive or glue

Measurements

Night of Navy cardstock 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2 inches
White cardstock 3 1/4″ x 4″
DSP – 4 strips measuring 4″ x 3/4″ (two for outside and two for inside card)
DSP – 3 1/4″ x 4″
Window sheet or cardstock measuring 5 1/2″ x  1 1/4″  (this is the spanner piece)
Circle punch – 1 3/8″

Spanner Panel Steps

  1. Create your cardbase as normal by scoring along the 8 1/2″ edge at 4 1/4″ and crease it in half.
  2. Next cut the front of your card at one inch on both sides up to the score line only.  This should produce three panels across the front of your card (landscape orientation).

3. Then close the middle panel and attach the spanner piece (window sheet) to the ends of the one-inch panels as pictured below.

4. Next attach your dsp to the middle panel, close the side panels and add dsp to the two side panels as shown. Notice the spanner piece covers the middle panel but because it is a                       window sheet you can see the design behind it.

5. Then add your two pieces of dsp on the inside of the card with the white cardstock piece adhered between them.

6. Stamp your sentiment on the white cardstock inside the cardbase.

7.  Decorate the outside of the card.  I used a circle punch to cut out a bunny and a bird. Then I attached them with tear and tape adhesive to the window sheet.  But you can do whatever             your heart desires. That is the beauty of cardmaking!  You can change things up to suit your taste.

I hope you give this a try and then head over to my facebook page and share your creation with me.  I would love to see what you come up with for your Spanner Panel card.

Happy Stamping! God Bless!
