Handmade card making and papercrafting tips and techniques

Learn the Faux Ribbon Technique

faux ribbon card

Do you like to learn new techniques and improve your cardmaking skills?  I learned the Faux Ribbon Technique last year and thought it was a great way to add some interest to the front of a card.  The technique looks like a zig zag and you can use any kind of pattern paper you want as long as they compliment each other. The zig will show one side of the paper and the zag will show the other side!

Supplies

Night of Navy cardstock
White Cardstock
Night of Navy Ink
Stamp Set for sentiment
Adhesive-Backed Solid Gems
Countryside Inn Designer Series Paper
Pencil
Stampin’ Dimensionals
Ruler
Snips

Measurements

Night of Navy Cardstock 8.5” x 5.5” and 5 ¼” x 2”
White Cardstock 4” x 5 ¼” (two pieces) and scrap piece for sentiment
Countryside Inn DSP – 8 pieces measuring 3” x ¾” (4 of one design and 4 with a different design)

Steps

  1. Score the Night of Navy cardstock at 4 ¼” along the 8 ½ “ side to form the card base and crease it in half.
  2. Adhere White cardstock piece on the front of the card base centering it so it leaves a border around the edges.
  3. Adhere the second piece of White cardstock on the inside of the card base also centering it
  4. Next take the Night of Navy cardstock measuring 2” x 5 ¼” and on each side take a pencil and make a tick mark at ¾”, 1 ½”, 2 ¼”, 3”, 3 ¾”, 4 ½”
  5. Then draw a diagonal line connecting the tick marks to create the diagonal pattern shown below.
  6. Place your DSP on the areas marked DSP according to the picture above.
  7. Flip the cardstock over and trim off the excess dsp that hangs off the cardstock using your snips as shown above.
  8. On the front, add the rest of the dsp using a different design than the first layer placing them in the opposite direction as shown below.
  9. Flip it back over and trim off the excess dsp once more that hangs off the edge of the cardstock.
  10. Attach your faux ribbon cardstock piece to the front of the card base.
  11. Stamp your sentiment and attach it with dimensionals to the right of the faux ribbon.
  12. Add some gems to jazz it up some more.
  13. Decorate the envelope to match and pop it in the mail to brighten someone’s day!
