Diagonal Fun Fold Technique

diagonal fun fold card

Grab some cardstock and matching dsp (designer series paper) and let’s make a super fun fold called the Diagonal Fun Fold or Angled Fun Fold technique! I want to give credit to Jackie Bolhuis for this idea.  I CASED (copy and share everything) this card from her.  She used the Bright and Beautiful 6″ x 6″ designer series paper and since I just love that colorful pattern paper, I had to copy it. Then I decided to try it with another dsp called Countryside Inn.  Countryside Inn is another favorite of mine because of all different shades of blue. Blue is my all-time favorite color.  So, let’s get started, shall we?

Supplies Needed

Note:  Supplies can be purchased from me at my online store by clicking this link to shop.

Full sheet of cardstock measuring 8 1/2″ x 11″
pencil
ruler
scissors
paper trimmer/scorer
3 different pieces of designer series paper (dsp) with 3 different designs
stamp set
ink
dimensionals
circle punch or die
gems

DSP Measurements for the Diagonal Fun Fold

Right side (inside when folded): 4″ x 5 1/4″

Left side (front of card when folded): 2 3/4″ x 3 1/2″

Center when folded (backside before folding):  3 1/2″ x 4 1/4″  (Use the same measurements for optional white cardstock on the inside center)

Cardstock will be cut at an angle using the instructions below.

Diagonal Fun Fold Instructions

  1. Take your ruler and pencil and cardstock and measure 3 inches across the 8 1/2″ edge and mark it. Then measure 5 1/2″ along the bottom of the 8 1/2″ edge and mark it with the pencil.
  2. Take your paper trimmer and line up the two pencil marks in the cutting track and cut your cardstock at an angle.  This will produce two card bases.
  3. Score the card base along the 11″ side at 3″ and 6 3/4″. Note:  the 3 inch score should be at the narrow end and the 6 3/4″ score at the wider end of the card base. (On my video I did the reverse and had to start over). Here is the link to my YouTube video where you can watch me make the card.
  4. Fold the 6 3/4″ crease inward towards the right side and the 3″ crease outward in the opposite direction.
  5. Place the dsp for the right side (the larger side) on the cardstock and raise it up leaving a border at the bottom and sides.  Then flip it over and use your scissors to trim the excess at an angle along the cardbase.
  6. Place the dsp for the left side (the smallest side) on the cardstock and raise it up leaving a border along the bottom and sides. Flip both pieces over and trim the excess dsp along the edge of the cardstock.
  7. Place the dsp for the center on the cardstock leaving a border on the bottom and sides.  Flip both the cardstock and dsp over and trim the excess dsp along the edge of the cardstock.
  8. Attach the left and right dsp pieces to the front of the card base.  Attach the center dsp to the backside of the card base.

9. Stamp your sentiment and use your circle punch or die to cut it out.  Add a dimensional to pop it up on the front of the card.

10. Decorate with gems.

11. You can stamp another sentiment on the inside of the center of the card if you want or add some white cardstock if the card base is too dark. Then sign it and send it on it’s way to some lucky recipient!
