Floating Element Card Tutorial

floating element balloon card

Have you tried the Floating Element technique?  It makes it look like parts of your card are floating above the card base. It is really quite easy to do and very cool!  Let’s get started.

Supplies Needed

Window sheet
Strips of designer series pattern paper
Cardstock for the base of your card
Adhesive
Foam Adhesive Strips
Circle punch or die (or any other geometric shaped die or punch)

Steps to make the Floating Element

  1. First cut strips of designer series paper (dsp) into 1/2 inch wide strips of any length longer than the die or punch
  2. Then cut a piece of window sheet a little larger than your die or punch
  3. Next, use adhesive or tear and tape to adhere the strips of dsp across your window sheet leaving an equal amount of space between each strip.

4. Use your die and die cutting machine or paper punch to cut through the dsp attached to the window sheet.

5.  Then, apply foam adhesive strips on the back of each row of dsp.

6.  Finally, attach the floating element to your card base and decorate as desired.

Didn’t I tell you it was easy?? Here is another example of a floating element card I made using an octagon shaped die from the Countryside Corners Dies.
