Handmade card making and papercrafting tips and techniques

Bokeh Technique

Bokeh card

Have you heard of the Bokeh Technique? Pronounced bow-kay.  It is a very old technique and my research shows that it is a photography term.  In photography they intentionally create a blur produced when out-of-focus parts of an image cause circles of confusion.  Circles are produced when the lens renders out-of-focus points of light.

Today I am going to teach you the bokeh technique as it relates to card making and adding white circles to our card.  Let’s get started.

Supplies Needed

White Craft Ink
Sponge
Vellum
Various size circle punches or dies
Blending brushes
Three coordinating colors of ink
White cardstock

Steps to create the Bokeh Technique

  1. First, cut various size circles in your Vellum paper leaving a good border around each circle.
  2. vellum with circles
  3. Then, using your blending brushes add ink to your white cardstock in a random pattern. I used Mossy Meadow, Gorgeous Grape and Orchid Oasis ink.
  4. Next, place one of the circles over your cardstock created above. Then hold it in place and apply Craft White Ink with your sponge until the white ink covers the ink below it on the cardstock.
  5. Repeat the process of applying Craft white ink with you sponge using all the different size circles over the top of your cardstock randomly.
  6. Let the craft ink dry thoroughly.
  7. Next adhere it to your card base and decorate as desired.
