Explosion Card Tutorial

two explosion card sizes

What is an Explosion Card?  It is a super fun fold greeting card design that will amaze your friends and family!! When they open the card, the inside will expand outward like an explosion.  I will also give you a link to a YouTube video to watch me make and explosion card in person.  Below are the measurements and supplies needed for making an explosion card in two different sizes, small and regular.  You can also watch the video I made on YouTube using this link.

Supplies to Make Two Different Size Explosion Cards

6″ x 6″ or 8″ x 8″ piece of designer series paper (DSP)
Cardstock measuring 3-1/2″ x 7″ scored at 3-1/2″ or 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″ (card base)
Adhesive
DSP to decorate the front of the card base
White cardstock for the sentiment inside of the card
Stamp set for the sentiment

Instructions for Explosion Card

  1. Fold the DSP diagonally to look like a triangle.
  2. Step 1 Explosion Card

  1. Open it and fold it diagonally in the other direction like a triangle.
  2.   Step 2 Explosion Card
  3. Open it and fold it in half like a rectangle.
  4.   Step 3 Explosion Card
  5. Open it and poke the center fold upwards and push the two side creases inward (inside) so it looks like a triangle again on the top and bottom.
  6.   Step 4 Explosion Card Step 5 Explosion Card
  7. Then take the right and left sides of the triangle and make the points meet in the middle and fold the ends over.
  8. Step 6 Explosion Card
  9. Flip it over and repeat step 7.  Now it looks more like a house shape.
  10. Step 7 Explosion Card
  11. Next, take the two sides of the triangle that you just folded over and reverse the fold, so the point of the triangle is inside instead of outside.  Do this for all four points.
  12. Step 8 Explosion Card
  13. Then add adhesive to the top and bottom and adhere it inside your card base.
  14.   last step Explosion Card
  15. Then decorate the outside front of the card base.
  16. Finally, add a piece of white cardstock on the inside with your stamped sentiment.

Wasn’t that FUN!  When you open the card, the inside jumps out at you.  Be sure to try making both sizes, the small and the regular size explosion card.  If you’d like to watch me make one, use this link to view the video on my YouTube channel.
