Four Ideas for card making for Christmas

candy canes

Today’s post is going to show you several ideas for card making for Christmas.  Normally I am opposed to seeing Christmas cards in July.  It is still summertime out and the last thing I want to think about is Christmas which is still 6 months away.  The new July-December 2022 Mini Catalog from Stampin’ Up! has so many great new products that I had a change of heart.  Right away I had to order the Sweetest Christmas Suite which includes Sweet Candy Canes Stamp Set, Candy Canes Dies, Red and Green ribbon, sequins, glimmer paper and Sweetest Christmas 12″x12″ designer series paper (dsp) and more.  The Candy Canes Dies can be used to cut out the candy canes in the dsp which is very cool.  Visit my online store to order your Sweetest Christmas Suite today and you can make the cards I am sharing with you today.  https://www.stampinup.com/products/sweetest-christmas-suite-collection-english?demoid=2264950

Ideas for Card Making for Christmas #1

My first idea for card making for Christmas was to use the candy cane dies and cut out a red and a green candy cane from the Sweetest Christmas dsp.  I used some real red cardstock for the base cut at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and scored on the long side at 4 1/4″.  Then I cut a piece of the striped dsp at 5 1/4″ x 4″ and attached it to the card base making sure to center it.  Then I used stampin’ dimensionals (which are double sided adhesive foam dots that add depth and dimension) to the two candy canes and criss-crossed them on the card.  Next, I stamped two ivy pieces in green ink and used the dies to cut them out with my die cutting machine.  I attached the ivy on either side of the candy canes also using dimensionals to pop them up a little. Then added 3 gold sequins to each piece of ivy to look like berries.  I took some red and green ribbon and created the bow and attached that below the Candy Canes.  Lastly, I stamped my sentiment in red ink on some white card stock, cut it to size and added that over the top of the candy canes at a diagonal.

My second idea for card making for Christmas was very similar to the first.  This time I used a white card base cut at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2 ” and scored on the long side at 4 1/4″. Then I used one of the candy cane dies to cut red cardstock with the diagonal striped die pattern.  I wanted some of the candy cane dsp to show through behind the striped die cut piece, so I cut that at 5 1/4″ x 4″ and then attached the die cut striped piece on top of the dsp using glue. But I did not attach it to the card base yet because I wanted to add some ribbon first.  Next, I used the dies again to cut out two red candy canes from the Sweetest Christmas dsp and popped them up using dimensionals. Then I die cut a piece of red card stock to make the tag which cuts a hole on each end to allow my green ribbon to thread behind the tag and attach the ends of the ribbon behind my dsp piece.  Then I could attach the dsp and die cut striped piece to the white card base.   Next, I stamped my sentiment in red ink and cut it with an oval paper punch and attached it on top of the red tag.  I added a few green sequins for some bling and that was it!

My third idea again used white cardstock for the base and I attached some striped dsp (5 1/4″ x 4″) to the card base (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2 ” scored in half).  Next, I used the candy cane stamps and used some red and green ink to stamp the candy cane images.  I die cut just the top of the candy canes using the square stitched shaped dies which are now retired.  The stitched shaped dies provide a very nice border around each square.  Then, I cut a piece of red cardstock measuring 5 1/4 ” x 1 7/8″ and attached the 3 stamped squares leaving a border of red around each one and attached that to the front of the card.  Using green ink, I stamped my sentiment and used the Timeless Label paper punch to cut it out.  I added dimensionals to the label and attached it to the card.  Three green sequins were added as embellishments to finish off the card.

Ideas for Card Making for Christmas #4

Card Making idea #4 uses white cardstock as the base (measurements above).  Then die cut green cardstock using the striped diagonal die and attached it to the card base.  Then a piece of the dsp was cut at 4″x 2″ and attached on top of that layer.  Next, using the 2 1/2″ circle paper punch in red card stock and the 2 3/8″ scallop paper punch in white cardstock I created the next two layers.  Using the Candy Canes dies, I cut the candy cane image from the dsp and attached it on top of the scallop.  Two pieces of ivy were cut using the dies and green card stock which attached on either side of the candy cane.  Gold Holly Leaves were glued on each side of the candy cane to add some shimmer to the card.  The gold holly leaves can be purchased here https://www.stampinup.com/products/gold-holly-leaves?demoid=2264950

Finally, I stamped the sentiment in green ink and die cut it out using another retired set called stitched so sweetly dies and popped it up using dimensionals.
