As the grandkids get older it is harder and harder to buy for them, so I like to give them gift cards. Today I will be showing you one option for creating a fun greeting card that contains a Pop Out Gift Card Holder. The gift card pops out when you open the card! How cool is that? It is quick and easy to create. Just follow the instructions below and let me know if you have any questions.
Pop Out Gift Card Holder Supplies and Measurements
Liquid Glue
Paper Trimmer/Scorer
Small Circle Punch or Die
Stamp Set
Ink
Colored Cardstock: 4 1/4″ x 11″
- Score at 3 1/2″, 5 1/2″, and 7 1/2″
Designer Series Paper (DSP)
- 3 ¼” x 4″
Basic White cardstock:
- 3 1/4″ x 4″ (inside the card)
- Scrap piece for your label
Belly Band:
- Colored cardstock 1/2″ wide x 8 1/2″ long (can be the same color as the card base)
- Any size label stamped on white cardstock
Instructions
- First, take a piece of cardstock and cut it down the center longways so that it measures 4 1/4″ x 11″
- Next score the cardstock at 3 1/2″, 5 1/2″, and 7 1/2″ so that it looks like the letter “W” or “M” depending which way you hold it.
3. Then add a narrow line of liquid glue to three sides only as shown in the photo below and glue it shut.
4. Next you will trim off a tiny sliver (about 1/8″) of cardstock from the folded end. So basically, you are cutting off the fold to create the opening for the gift card.
Then it should look like below.
5. Now you can use either a circle paper punch or a small circle die to create a thumb hole to make it easier to grab the gift card once it is inside. I centered a small circle die and held it in place with washi tape and ran it through my die cutting machine.
Below is a picture of what it looks like with the gift card inside the pop out gift card holder while the card is open.
6. Now all you have to do is decorate the front of the card with some pretty pattern paper. I used Sentimental Christmas Designer Series Paper by Stampin’ Up! Then add some white cardstock on the inside of the card to write/stamp a personalized message.
7. To create a belly band that slides over the finished card and holds the card shut, just wrap a 1/2-inch strip of cardstock around your card and adhere the belly band to itself. Be careful not to make it too snug. It should slide off and on nicely. Then you can create a label from white cardstock and stamp a sentiment or image. I used a stamp from the stamp set called “My Small Business” that says “Handmade for You” using ink that matches my cardstock (pretty peacock).
