Pinwheel Card Making

three pinwheels

Summertime is a fun time to play with Pinwheels.  I have a pinwheel in my yard that spins around when the wind blows. So why not make a pinwheel card? There are a lot of different types of pinwheel card variations but today we are going to use the template below.

Pinwheel Card Measurements

1 1/4″ square paper punch or die
8 1/2 x 5 1/2″ white cardstock for card base scored in half at 4 1/4″
Two square cardstock pieces in two different colors measuring 2 5/8″ x 2 5/8″
2 7/8″ by 3/4″ coordinating cardstock  (the measurements for the sentiment and the piece behind the sentiment can be whatever you want)
2 5/8″ by 1/2″ white cardstock for the sentiment

Pinwheel Instructions

  1. Using the square punch or die cut, punch out four squares of each piece of dsp for a total of 8 squares.  If you don’t have a punch or dies that creates 1 1/4″ squares you can use your paper trimmer instead.
  2. Crease your card base in half and set it aside for now.
  3. Using grid paper or a ruler find the middle of the cardstock, turn the second piece of cardstock 90 degrees and attach it to look like the photo above.
  4. Now start attaching your 1 1/4″ squares alternating patterns.  Don’t attach the first piece completely because you will need to tuck the last square underneath it. Line up each dsp square so that it fits inside each corner of your cardstock pieces and the points all meet in the center.
  5. Attach a gem, brad or rhinestone in the center.
  6. Then adhere your pinwheel to your card base leaving room for your sentiment below it.
  7. Stamp your sentiment on the small piece of white cardstock and attach it to the slightly larger piece of cardstock behind it.  The template above shows the sentiment going the whole width of the card base but I chose to make it the same width as the pinwheel.  It’s up to you and the length of your sentiment stamp.
  8. Attach your sentiment below the pinwheel and you are done! Congrats!  Now share it over on my Facebook page.  I would love to see it!

Video

I made a video over on my YouTube channel because it is very hard to clearly describe this technique. Please watch the video to see how it is done.

If you like this technique how about trying another one called the diagonal fun fold.
