How to make a Tent Card Stand Up

basket tent fold

Well summer is flying by so thoughts of Autumn have begun.  This post will describe step by step how to make a tent card stand up.  The tent card fun fold is pretty easy.  You will change the alignment of the card from landscape to portrait. Then cut an extra piece of cardstock for inside the card which attaches the front to the back.  That extra piece will be scored so that it folds in half and creates a little tent and keeps the card standing upright.  But it then will also fold flat so you can mail the card.  Normally portrait style cards will slide open when you try to display them but not if you make a tent card!  So, I hope you give this a try.  Let me know if you have any questions by emailing tammy@tammylovesstamping.com and I will be glad to help.

Steps How to Make a Tent Card Stand Up

  1. Cut a piece of cardstock 4 1/4 inches by 11 inches
  2. Score the 11 inch side in half at 5 1/2 inches
  3. Cut a second piece of cardstock (the same color) 3 inches by 4 1/4 inches (later I refer to this as the tent fold piece)
  4. Score the second piece along the 3 inch side at 3/4″, 1 1/2″, and 2 1/4″
  5. Fold along the score lines until it looks like a “W” (valley fold, mountain fold, valley fold)

6. Cut a piece of designer series paper to decorate the front of the card 4″ x 5 1/4″

7. Adhere the designer series paper to the front of the card and finish decorating any way you wish.  I added a pumpkin, some leaves and a basket of flowers to the front of my card.  I used Stampin’ Up Dimensionals to pop up some of the images so they sit above the card a little bit.  The stamp set and coordinating dies are from the Hello Harvest Bundle (item #159644).  They are available from the July-December 2022 Mini Catalog until the end of the year.  You can purchase them from my online store here https://tammywilliams.stampinup.net

8.  Add Tear & Tape adhesive, glue or tombo or Stampin’ Seal adhesive to the outer folds of each side as shown in the diagrams below.  Flip the tent piece so it looks like a “W” before you adhere it to the inside bottom of the card. You can order Tear & Tape, liquid glue or Stampin’ Seal from my online store as well.

9. Adhere one end of the tent fold piece to the inside front of the card along the bottom.  Squeeze the tent piece shut. Close your base card so the inside back of the card adheres to the other end of the tent fold piece.  By doing it that way you can pretty much guarantee perfect alignment.

That’s all there is to it!  Now you know how to make a Tent Card Stand Up fun fold.  You can use the back of the card for any additional stamping and to sign your name or write a little note to the recipient.  Or you can keep it and display it as a decoration.  I think that is what I may do with it.
