Baby Wipe Technique & 3 Examples

leaf fall 3d embossing with baby wipe tech

Without a doubt the baby wipe technique has been around for a while.  But it is always nice to revisit certain techniques.  Below I will describe the baby wipe technique and show you three examples of cards made using the technique.  At the present time in Minnesota, we are in peak season for leaves changing colors this fall.  With this in mind, last weekend my husband and I drove from Minnesota to Wisconsin. In short, the colors on the trees were so amazing and vibrant they inspired me to use the baby wipe technique to make several Autumn cards.  I created a YouTube video tutorial as well so if you want to head over and watch that, I will give you the link at the end of this post.

Card #1 Using the Baby Wipe Technique

cajun craze leaves with baby wipe tech

Supplies used for Card #1

  • Cajun Craze cardstock
  • Magnificent Maple stamp set (retired)
  • Blessing from Heaven stamp set (retired)
  • Clear Acrylic block
  • White cardstock
  • Ribbon
  • Oval punch
  • Button
  • Cajun Craze ink pad and ink refill bottle
  • Early Expresso ink refill bottle
  • Crumb Cake ink refill bottle
  • Baby Wipe
  • Stampin’ Scrub
  • Grid Paper
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Tray from the Embossing Additions Tool Kit
  • Paper Trimmer/scorer
  • Sponge dauber

Directions for Baby Wipe Technique

  1. Cut a piece of white cardstock 4″ x 5 1/4″
  2. Next cut a piece of cajun craze card stock 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2 inches and score it in half at 4 1/4 inches along the 8 1/2 inch side
  3. Then place some grid paper down to protect your work surface otherwise you may get ink on it.
  4. Next, place a baby wipe inside the Tray
  5. Using the 3 ink refill bottles put several drops of each color onto the baby wipe in a random pattern until the white spaces in between each of the drops of ink are filled in.

Directions  (Continued)

6. Attach your leaf stamp to your acrylic block and stamp it in your cajun craze ink pad.

7. Then stamp your leaf stamp onto the baby wipe so that it picks up the three colors of ink.

8. Next, stamp onto your white cardstock.  You should see color variations and each leaf you stamp will be unique just like in nature.

9. Use your Stampin Scrub to clean off your stamp.  You don’t want to get the other two colors from the baby wipe contaminating your cajun craze ink pad.

10. Stamp your leaf into your cajun craze ink pad again and then stamp onto the baby wipe ink to pick up the additional colors

11. Stamp the second leaf onto your white cardstock.  Repeat this process until you fill your page. Be sure to clean your stamp each time.

12. Attach some ribbon to your stamped white cardstock and adhere a button to the ribbon (optional)

13. Then attach your white cardstock to your cajun craze card base using either stampin’ dimensionals to add some lift and pop up the white cardstock or use some adhesive.

14. After that, stamp your sentiment using cajun craze ink and punch it out using the oval paper punch (or whatever punch or die you have on hand).

15. Next, use your sponge dauber and cajun craze ink to go around the edges of your oval cardstock and add some color all the way around.  Basically, I like doing this because it takes away the starkness of the whiteness and connects the color to the card more.

16. Attach the punched out sentiment to the card using Stampin’ dimensionals to pop it up a little above the card.

17.  Next, attach a sheet of white cardstock to the inside of your card and either stamp inside or write something.  You can also stamp a leaf on the envelope. Then, send the card to someone and brighten their day!
