Six Ways to Use the Simply Scored Scoring Tool

Simply Scored Scoring Tool

I recently created a YouTube video about the six ways to use the Simply Scored Scoring Tool by Stampin’ Up!  So, I thought I would follow up with a blog post as well. First let me explain the purpose of the scoring tool (sometimes referred to as a scoreboard).  The Simply Scored Scoring Tool is useful for making multiple score lines on your cardstock.  Cardstock and designer series paper (dsp) can be scored to make it easier and neater to fold the paper along the crease of the score line.  The tool helps with keeping the score lines perfectly straight and evenly spaced.  It is useful when making multiple scored projects in one sitting.  Otherwise, if you just need to create one score line, the Paper Trimmer has a cutting blade and a scoring blade that works nicely as well.

Simply Scored Scoring Tool Description

  • The size of the base is slightly larger than 12″ x 12″ to accommodate 12″ x 12″ cardstock and paper.
  • The base of the plate has grooves etched every 1/8″; you can choose how far apart you want the score lines to be.
  • It includes rulers on the top and along one side; one standard left-to-right ruler and one zero-center ruler, marked in 1/8″ increments
  • Contains three placement markers to place at the measurements you need, and one Stylus used to create the score lines
  • Comes with two storage compartments: one for the stylus and one to hold the place markers and other tools.
Note: When pulling the stylus down the grooves to create your score lines, use the fine, thinner tip to score cardstock and the thicker, larger end for delicate dsp.  The thicker end and light pressure will help make sure the paper doesn’t crack apart instead of crease.

6 Different Ways to Use the Scoring Tool

  1. Score your cardstock before cutting it in half.  Take your cardstock measuring 8-1/2″ x 11″ and with the 8-1/2″ side at the top of the tool, score in half at 4-1/4″.  Then take your paper trimmer, place the 11″ side at the top and cut the cardstock in half at 5-1/2″.  You will be left with two card bases already scored in half and ready to decorate.
  2. Create a decorative border on the front of your card base.  For example, score three vertical lines a quarter of an inch apart and then score three horizontal lines a quarter of an inch apart.
  3. Make score lines surrounding the focal point of your card.
  4. Use it to score a circle or a scallop circle in half
  5. The Simply Scored Scoring Tool can be used to make rosettes or accordion folds
  6. It can be used to score your cardstock to make 3D projects like gift card holders, boxes, floating hexagon cards, etc.
