Seashells 3D Embossing Folder

Seashells 3D embossing folder

Today’s project is inspired by my upcoming spring break vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  It has been a long brutally cold winter here in Minnesota and so my husband and I are very much looking forward to warmer weather.  So, we will be spending time on the beach with my sister and her husband, my brother and his wife, my nephew, two of my daughters, my grandson, my daughter’s boyfriend and my sister’s best friend and her husband and my sister’s brother-in-law.  WOW! That’s a lot of people to vacation with but it will be a blast.  Now follow along with me to make this beautiful seashell card and wow your friends.

The inspiration for this card came from a Facebook post by Pam Hough.  She made her card a sympathy card. I changed the sentiment to make an all occasion card instead.

Supplies used to make Seashells 3D Embossing Folder card

-cardstock base (I used a retired color called wisteria wonder but you can use any comparable color cardstock you have on hand) measuring 8 ½ by 5 ½ inches scored in half at 4 ¼ inches

-two pieces of white cardstock measuring 4 by 5 ¼ inches (one for the inside and one for the outside of card) Item#159276

-Regal Rose, Lovely Lilac, Glorious Green ink pads (all retired colors – you can substitute any similar ink color you have on hand) Fresh Freshia ink #155611 and Soft Suede ink pad #147115.

-scrap piece of very vanilla cardstock #101650 and starfish die (from Seaside Seashells dies Item #156095) and starfish stamp – Item #158203 (optional step)

-scrap piece of white cardstock for the sentiment – Item#159276

-small piece of wisteria wonder cardstock to frame the sentiment

-bone folder – Item #102300

-Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine (or any embossing/die cutting machine you may own) Item #149653

-adhesive (Stampin’ Seal #152813, Tombow Mono permanent adhesive, or liquid glue – Item #110755)

-paper trimmer/scorer – Item #152392

-Stampin’ Dimensionals – Item #104430

Instructions

  1. Fold your card base on the score line and give it a good, crisp crease with your bone folder (if you have one)
  2. Adhere one of the white cardstock pieces to the inside of your card
  3. Emboss the second piece of white cardstock by placing it inside the embossing folder and run it through your embossing machine
  4. Next, take your sponge daubers and your inks and sponge over the top of each seashell with the different colors. I’ve never seen a purple seashell before but that doesn’t mean my card can’t have one!  Be creative and have fun experimenting with different colors for your shells and seaweed.
  5. Adhere the embossed cardstock to the front of your card base and make sure to center it.
  6. Stamp your sentiment from the Friends are like Seashells Stampin’ Up! stamp set on a scrap piece of white cardstock using the same color ink as the base of your card. Then, cut the cardstock to fit your stamped sentiment. Your size may be bigger or smaller than mine depending on what sentiment you stamped.
  7. Then cut your scrap piece that is the same color as the card base making it 1/8 inch bigger on all sides than the stamped sentiment piece from the previous step.
  8. Next, attach the sentiment to the piece you just cut 1/8 inch bigger so that the sentiment looks like it has a border behind it.
  9. Flip your sentiment over and add a few Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back and adhere your sentiment to the front of your card.
  10. Optional step – stamp the starfish on very vanilla cardstock using soft suede ink. Place the starfish die over the stamped starfish and run it through the emboss/die cutting machine.  Add a Stampin’ Dimensional to the back and adhere it to your card.
  11. Stamp the inside of your card with another sentiment if desired. You can also stamp a sand dollar image or some other seashell from the Friends are like Seashells stamp set to add a surprise on the inside.
  12. Pat yourself on the back! You did it! Now take a picture of your card and share it on my Facebook page. I’d love to see it!
  13. Mail your card to someone and brighten their day!
