Have you ever wanted to make a card that looks like a piece of art, but is surprisingly simple to create? The fractured card technique is one of those designs that instantly grabs attention with its bold lines and eye-catching diamond shaped focal point. Today, I’ll be showing you step-by-step how to make this fun style of card. (There is also a video you can watch here.) Whether you’re brand new to the technique or just looking for fresh inspiration, you’ll love how easy it is to customize with your favorite papers, stamps, and colors. Let’s get started.

Before you start, be sure to watch my video to see the technique for adhering the four 1/4″ strips around the diamond center in step #5 below.
Directions for the Fractured Card Technique
-
First, start with a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of colored cardstock. Score at 4-1/4″ along the long side and fold in half to make your card base.
-
Secondly, cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP).
-
Then, cut a 2-3/8″ x 2-3/8″ square from white cardstock. However, you can use a smaller square to enhance the fractured look and show off more DSP.
-
Next, adhere the square to the center of the DSP at a diamond angle.
-
Then, cut four strips of coordinating cardstock at 1/4″ x 5-1/2″. Adhere them around the diamond to frame it, letting the ends hang over the DSP. Afterward, trim off the excess.
-
After that, attach the DSP layer to the card front.
-
Then, decorate the diamond center—stamping, ribbon, or embellishments all work beautifully.
-
Finally, finish the inside and envelope, then send your card to brighten someone’s day!
