Handmade card making and papercrafting tips and techniques

Center Step Fold Card

Have you ever tried making a Center Step Fold Card?  It can look a little daunting but it is actually not that difficult.  I love trying new fun folds so when I saw an example of one from another demonstrator (Lisa Curcio), I had to give it a try. I wanted to use some of the new core colors from the color refresh, so I picked Bubble Bath and Berry Burst color combination. It is so pretty!  I hope you give this fun fold a try and share your creation with me on my Facebook page.  I’d love to see it.

Instructions

  1. Take your card base on the long side and score a one inch line at the 6-1/2 inch mark. Flip the card base over and make another one inch score mark from the 6-1/2 inch mark. Then from the 1 inch mark and the 2 inch mark score another 1 inch line from each, flip the card over and repeat to create a one inch score from one inch and a one inch score from two inches. (see the dotted lines on the template)
  2. Next turn the card base along the short side and cut the card base from the end of the one inch score line down to the end of the 6 1/2 inch score line.  Flip the card base over and repeat the cut on the other side.  (see the solid lines on the template above)
  3. Turn the card base on the long side and from the 5-1/2 inch mark, score in between the two cuts (from 1 inch to 3-1/4 inch). That creates the center and the two one inch cut pieces are the sides.
  4. Next fold on the score lines so the 2 inch score lines are a valley folds and the one inch score, the 5-1/2″ and 6-1/2 inch score lines are mountain folds. See side view photo below.
  5. Then attach your dsp to the cardstock for the sides and then attach to your card base.
  6. After that, attach your dsp to the cardstock for the center and attach to the center of the card base
  7. Attach your dsp along the bottom of the card base
  8. Next attach your white cardstock on the inside of the card base (see photo below)
  9. Decorate!
