With alphabet dies, you can easily spell out names, special dates, or heartfelt messages that make your projects truly one-of-a-kind. Today, I’m sharing why these little letter dies deserve a permanent spot in your craft room and more than 15 ways to take your projects from simple to stunning.

Meet the Mini, À La Mode, and Party Alphabet Dies

Currently Stampin’ Up! offers three different size alphabet dies and fonts to pick from:

  • Mini Alphabet Dies – Small but mighty! Approx. 3/4″ tall. Perfect for adding a little sentiment on cards or tucking a name into a tag or label. You’ll get duplicates of the letters you use most, plus one large die that cuts out the entire alphabet at once.

  • À La Mode Alphabet Dies – Sleek and modern. These are a great medium size, just right for scrapbook titles, card fronts, or layering onto a gift box. They also include numbers and multiples of frequently used letters.

  • Party Alphabet Dies – Big, bold, and FUN! 🎉 Great for banners, home décor, or whenever you want your words to take center stage.

Each set has its own unique style — from tiny and sweet, to sleek and modern, to bold and playful. That means no matter what project you’re working on, there’s an alphabet die that’s just the right fit. The picture below shows all three die sets side by side for size comparison.

Ways to Use Alphabet Dies for Cardmaking and Scrapbooking

Alphabet dies for cardmaking and scrapbooking are very versatile and can be used in various ways:

  1. Create custom sentiments
  2. Bold Titles
  3. Fun Focal Points
  4. Unique Backgrounds
  5. Banners
  6. Monograms
  7. Tone on Tone Backgrounds by die cutting the letters in the same color as the card base
  8. Rainbow Titles – die cut each letter in a different color cardstock
  9. Decorate treat boxes with holiday words like “JOY” or “LOVE”
  10. Custom wine bottle tags with initials or fun words
  11. Framed art pieces with meaningful words or quotes.
  12. Heat emboss letters after cutting for a shiny finish
  13. Use felt, vellum, or specialty papers (like that new velvet paper) for a unique touch
  14. Inlay technique: fit the letters back into the negative space for a flat but polished look
  15. Stack the letters 3 high for texture and dimension

Samples and Even More Ways to Use Alphabet Dies

You can use the negative image from the Mini Alphabet Dies to create a playful background as shown on the card below. One die will cut out the entire alphabet at once.  Then instead of throwing the cardstock away after cutting out all the letters, adhere it to your card base as your first layer and continue building your card.  You can even add some color to the card base first using your blending brushes before adhering the negative image so the color shows through.

Another way to use the dies is to cut the sentiment three times using the À La Mode Alphabet Dies then stack the letters (adhere them on top of each other) to add dimension and impact.

Of course, you can also use your stamps and ink to decorate the letters you die cut.  How cool does that look?
