Ten Cardstock Saving Tips

The price of cardstock has gone up again due to rising manufacturing costs. Over the years, Stampin’ Up! has worked diligently to manage rising costs while balancing high-quality standards and remaining competitive in the market. The costs for raw materials and production have continued to climb, and only a select few mills around the world are qualified to produce our heavyweight, dyed-through cardstock, ensuring it meets our color and quality standards. Therefore, I have ten cardstock saving tips that should help stretch your cardstock a little further.

Ten Cardstock Saving Tips

1-Flip your cardstock over and use the other side when your stamped image gets messed up and you need a do-over. It is thick enough that the ink doesn’t bleed through from the other side.

2-Test stamp sentiments on grid paper to ensure they’re straight before stamping on cardstock. Stampin’ Up! sells grid paper and it also protects your work surface from adhesive, ink, etc.

3-Use Copy paper (printer paper) to practice stamping ideas and layouts before using your ‘good’ cardstock.

4-Practice fun folds using Copy paper (printer paper) before folding cardstock.

5-Use layers wisely – before you adhere a large layer on your card base, punch or die cut from the middle of it and use the pieces later. Then cover the hole with the next layer.

6-Make smaller cards like 3×3 or mini slimline styles, which use less cardstock. I have a tutorial for a regular slimline card here for you to check out.

7-Design Clean and Simple (CAS) Cards. Embrace minimalist designs that require less layering and cardstock.

8-Got small colored cardstock scraps? Use them to experiment with different colors of ink before you stamp on your card

9-Turn your paper scraps into a fun background. Cut your colored cardstock in different size strips and adhere to card base.

10-Save and organize scraps for smaller elements like sentiments, small die cuts, embellishments, or layering pieces.
