Without a doubt paper crafters always have lots of loose pieces of pattern paper lying around and wonder what to do with them. With this in mind, here’s an idea how to use up scraps of designer series paper. Cut them into one-inch squares! Position six one-inch squares in a sideways Z pattern starting in the top left corner and ending in the lower right corner or vice versa. Below are some examples going in both directions. You can also attach a background piece of cardstock measuring 1-1/8″ x 1-1/8″ to each of the squares if you like.
The spacing between the squares can be a little tricky. I recommend placing them on your cardstock before you adhere them to get a good idea of placement. Adhere the squares to a second layer of cardstock on top of your cardbase. The smaller the second layer, the smaller the spaces between the squares. The second layer can measure 4 ” x 5-1/4″ or it can be 3-3/4″ x 5″.
Another option to use up scraps is to fill the whole layer with 12 squares and add a focal piece on top.
A third option is to use eight 1-1/4″ squares cut from scrap pieces and surround a larger square that contains your focal piece. The larger square would measure 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ and you could layer that with another piece of cardstock measuring 2-1/4″ x 2-1/4″.
